Archie Griffin

The only player to win the Heisman Trophy twice

Archie Griffin, in an interview with a cable news service, once stated,"I'm not introduced simply as Archie Griffin, but as two time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin. It kinda sticks with you!" Rightfully so.
A native of Columbus, Archie enrolled at Ohio State University in 1972, and the rest really is Buckeyes history! In his second game as a Buckeye, he broke the school rushing record for one game with 239 yards, a prelude to the success which awaited for OSU and for him.
In his four years as the star running back, Ohio State won 40 of 46 games, winning the Big Ten titles four consecutive years, and appearing in the Rose Bowl four time. With such, Griffin became the only collegiate player to ever start in four Rose Bowl match ups.

Individually, Archie Griffin was selected as an All American player for three straight years, running for 100 or more yards in a phenomenal 31 consecutive regular season contests. He set a since broken record for career rushing yards of 5,177 total yards, and he became a member of the elite Heisman Trophy winners in 1974, repeating the feat again in 1975. He is also the only two time Walter Camp Award winner, given to the top collegiate football player in the country.

After an eight year tenure with the Cincinnati Bengals, Archie returned to Columbus, and today is an Associate Athletic Director for Ohio State University. He was enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1986, and his #45 is permanently retired by the Buckeyes football program. Perhaps the greatest accolade for Griffin came from none other than coach Woody Hayes, who described Archie as "the best football player I've ever seen".
